So, today in my poli sci we talked about voting, and more specifically the downturn in participation in the USA (that's where I'm from). According to my textbook, I think it's around only 47.5% of those registered actually vote. Now my book offers a lot of explanations why this number is so low. First of all, the USA has a lot more elections than other countries, so that probably skews that data. We vote for presidents and congress members, and then a whole bunch different elections for state and local levels. Some other reasons that the book offers are registration requirements, high cost of voting, decline in individual motivations, and decline in outside encouragement.
